Why use Electrum? Here are a dozen of the benefits of electrum wallets.
"Hackers set up a bunch of malicious servers," Reddit user u/normal_rc explained.
In a Reddit post, a user named mrsxeplatypus warns the public about malware and describes how scam ads work: malicious ads masquerade as an Electrum ad, and even display links that are correct, but immediately start downloading malicious EXE files when you click on the ad. As you can see in the picture, the URL it sends to me is elecktrum.org, not electrum.org.
But what am I supposed to do? I tried to get into my old laptop and see if I could do some magic, but I couldn't. In hindsight, I should have bought a printer worth 30 pounds, or at least printed out my private key.
This isn't the first time Thatectrum has appeared in a fake version, with hackers developing a fake encrypted wallet, Electrum, in December, resulting in the theft of nearly 250 bitcoins worth about $1 million. In January, GitHub discovered a fake Electrum wallet called "Electrvm" designed to steal users' money. In February, users of encrypted wallets Electrum and MyEtherWallet reported that they were facing phishing attacks. (Stationer's House)
According to an October 25 article from Vergecurrency, the upcoming Verge Core Version 6 can now be tested on Github and released once the pre-release version is tested correctly. Verge also said it had reconsidered the Electrum spectrum and was working on porting the latest ElectrumX server to work with the Verge Core client. "This means that you must upgrade the Electrum client after it is published. Doing so will indicate that you support the new halving schedule. "According to the previously announced timetable, the halving is planned for block 3700,000. (Newslogical)
Users of Bitcoin wallet Electrum are facing a phishing attack, according to the Dev Security Lab. Hackers broadcast messages to the Electrum client through a malicious server, prompting the user to update to v4.0.0, and if the user follows the prompt to install this "backdoor-carrying client", the private key is stolen and all digital assets are stolen. At the time of writing, at least 1,450 BTCs (stolen by one user, antimalware firm Malwarebytes and Electrum) had been stolen in phishing attacks that faked Thelectrum upgrade tips, with a total value of about $11.6 million. It is worth mentioning that less than version 3.3.4 of Electrum is vulnerable to such phishing attacks, users using electrum wallets are requested to update to the latest version of Electrum 3.3.8 via the official website (electrum.org), which has not yet been officially released v4.0.0, please do not use the link in the prompt message to update to avoid loss of assets.
The new version of the wallet will also include undersea switching, which allows BTC to pass from the Bitcoin blockchain to the payment channel network LN. For this novelty, Electrum is based on Boltz technology. Electrum will charge a commission for this service.
The Electrum team has announced the attack in an official tweet, saying that "this is an ongoing phishing attack on Electrum users" and reminding users to check the authenticity of the client's source before logging in. The team published its official website, and electrum clients downloaded elsewhere may be problematic.
